"Argue for your limitations, and sure enough, they're yours." - Richard Bach
You’ve heard this before.
The negative self-talk which float around in your mind.
Like a track on repeat.
“It’s too difficult.”
“I don’t have the qualification.”
“This is beyond me.”
“I don’t look good.”
“I don’t have the confidence.”
“I’m not good enough.”
This talk is self-limiting.
You give yourself a ceiling.
You set yourself a limit.
A threshold you will never even attempt to cross.
Most of the time these limits are unfounded.
They have no rational basis.
They simply lack belief.
They lack confidence.
They are driven by fear.
Now on the other side of the spectrum, there must be a level of reality involved.
Just as self-limiting talk is detrimental, so too is a blind confidence.
True limitations must be adhered to.
False limitations are to be challenged.
For example, if you are 140cm’s tall, this is a physical limitation which will make it extremely difficult for you to play basketball at a professional level.
However, if you simply lack a consistent jump-shot, this limitation only exists in your mind.
The stories you tell yourself are extremely powerful.
The more you tell yourself something, it will become habitual in your mind.
It becomes your reality.
Be aware of the negative self-talk.
Assess whether it is a true or fictional limitation.
Challenge yourself.
Don’t let self-limiting thoughts define who you are.
Strive to live, live to strive.
