"Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants." - Michael Pollan
There is a lot of information out there regarding healthy eating.
A lot of different 'diet' approaches.
Fixed-week weight loss programs.
Studies linking certain foods to certain diseases.
Research suggesting a certain food and its disease-fighting properties.
It can be very confusing.
It can be difficult to know what exactly we should and shouldn't eat.
Which eating regiments to follow.
Especially given the fact that not every approach will suit every individual.
However, with just seven words, Michael Pollan gives us a pretty solid foundation to build from.
"Eat food", that is, real food, not food-like-products created in processing plants and wrapped in packaging.
"Not too much", eat just enough, as to not overload our digestive system, keeping it in good order.
"Mostly plants", as we've been biologically built to derive the widest array of nutritional nourishment.
That's it, really.
That's the foundation for your nutritional lifestyle.
Lifestyle, as it is a way of life, not a periodically-adopted way of eating.
Foundation, as you decide for yourself what else you think is of benefit you, as an addition to this approach.
In my latest blog post, "A practical, seasonal, lifestyle", I discuss in detail the myriad of nutritional information made available to us, some facts around the information which is being presented, as well as my own simple approach to health and nutrition. Please read on for the full post.
Strive to live, live to strive.
