"Life is rough so you gotta be tough" - Johnny Cash
In life you will experience ups and downs.
Highs and lows.
Good, positive experiences in life are easy to deal with.
We welcome them with open arms.
But what about experiences that are not so good?
That are not ideal?
That are not what we expected?
Do you still welcome these experiences with open arms?
Or do you avoid them at all costs?
Do you shy away from discomfort?
Do you ignore them and hope that they disappear?
The reality is, as much as the good, the not-so-good come part and parcel with what we call life.
Both good and bad experiences are unavoidable.
If we want to be in control of our own lives, we must take control.
We must have the resilience to face all experiences, good and bad, with the same level of clarity and poise.
The focus to take us through the toughest of challenges, with our goals in mind.
The control over our emotions, so that life does not have determine what we become.
So that we are the only author of our own stories.
In my latest blog post, Ease versus Effort, I expand upon the false expectations on the ease of life and discuss the hard truths around effort and the roller coaster ride that is life. If you'd like more on the topic, please have a read!
