The conscious you occupies a small room in the mansion of the brain.

"The conscious you occupies a small room in the mansion of the brain." - David Eagleman

How much of what you think or do are you truly conscious of?

There may be more that happens behind the scenes than you think.

Much of what we think or do, even down to our character, what makes us who we are, is influenced by the unconscious mind.

These traits, ways of thinking, beliefs are ingrained into us throughout the span of our lives.

We are heavily influenced by our environment and the people around us, especially as young human beings developing into adolescence.

We may think we strongly believe something, but we also may not really know why.

The conscious mind can be viewed as a 'filter' for the unconscious mind.

But this filter certainly doesn't catch everything!

There are things you truly know, think and believe.

Then there are things which you actually say and do.

And then there are times when we do or say things then we wonder why moments after.

We live such busy lives that we have little time to be aware of what is going on inside of us.

Self awareness is a vital skill for being connected with oneself, true liberation, and ultimately a truly fulfilling life.

Practice self awareness.

Practice mindfulness.

Practice these things on your path to self-mastery.

In my latest Book Review #6, I review David Eagleman's "Incognito" which speaks in great detail the intricacies of the mind and how little of what we say and do really comes down to our conscious decisions. Please have a read for my review of this and two other great titles.

Strive to live, live to strive.
