"We all require and want respect, man or woman, black or white. It's our basic human right." - Aretha Franklin

The Queen of Soul.

The first woman to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The recipient of 10 honorary degrees from various universities across the United States.

Listed in both the Rolling Stones 100 Greatest Singers as well as 100 Greatest Artists lists.

But she was so much more than a phenomenal artist.

She was an inspirational figure to countless people.

She was paved the way for many female artists to follow.

She was hailed as the voice of the civil rights movement.

The voice of black America.

A symbol of black equality.

Someone who spoke through her gift, her art.

In honour of Aretha, let us pay homage to the contributions she has made and inspiration she has given to the human race.

Show respect to your fellow humans.

Show the respect that they all deserve.

Rest in peace.

Strive to live, live to strive.
