When food is in season, it's better for you!

"When food is in season, it's better for you!" - Mark Hyman, M.D.

Food is at it's tastiest when it is in season.

Food is most ripe when it is in season.

And when food is ripe, it is at it's peak with regards to nutritional density and availability.

Think about it this way.

Like anything with a lifespan, it matures, hits it's peak when ripe, then begins to deteriorate.

This is no different for food.

The nutritional make-up of the food develops through maturity.

It is at it's most nutritionally dense and available when ripe.

And it loses it's nutritional value once it begins to deteriorate.

This is why eating seasonally is so important to maintaining our own health and wellbeing.

It is nature's guide to what to eat to sustain our health and wellbeing.

And it goes without saying, if a 'food-product' cannot be classified as seasonal, it isn't likely going to do you too good.

Remember, fresh fruit and vegetables are seasonal foods.

Twinkies and Pop-Tarts are not; they're not even real food!

In my latest blog post, "A practical, seasonal, lifestyle", I discuss in detail the myriad of nutritional information made available to us, some facts around the information which is being presented, as well as my own simple approach to health and nutrition. Please read on for the full post.

Strive to live, live to strive.
